Penny Pines

$25 award to the state, district, club and/or individual who sponsors the most $68 donations to the National Garden Clubs, Inc., Penny Pines Program. NGC #1 – Penny Pines

This is a simple special project. All a Garden Club need do for this project is contribute $68 towards reforestation. This is a meaningful and practical way of contributing to a Penny Pine plantation as part of the costs of replanting replacement trees (pines or indigenous trees) caused by damage from any particular fire or other natural catastrophe. Your club may even designate a specific State you wish to receive your $68 contributions.

Under a Conservation agreement, the Forest Service will do the planting, using your donation along with Federal funds, and will provide to the reforestation area the same protection from fires, insects, and diseases given to other forested areas.

For each $68 contribution your club will receive a Penny Pines Certificate from National Garden Clubs, Inc. made “In Honor of: _____________” or “In Memory of ________” a special someone/organization/or theme, i.e. National Garden Week, Arbor Day, Support Our Troops, Keep America Beautiful, etc. Forms are available on the NGC Website (www.gardenclubs.org).

The plantations are a part of the regular National Forest Reforestation program planted on burned-over and brush-covered areas which are potentially productive timberlands. Planting sites are selected by the Supervisor of each National Forest. These plantations provide soil protection watershed protection, soil stabilization, future harvestable timber, as well as beauty and shade for recreation.
